I’m doing a little series on the blog this week, on tips and tricks I’ve used to clean household items.
If you stopped by yesterday, you probably gathered that we were doing a lot of purging, organizing, dusting and vacuuming around Heardmont on our Snow Day.
I wanted to share a quick tip to keep the dust at bay while you’re vacuuming and Pledge-ing away, but first, here’s a cute little arrangement I stumbled upon while tidying up.
Nothing like a cozy plaid throw and a matching pillow to make you want to snuggle up with a good book and leave the cleaning for another day, right?
As cozy as our little reading chair looked, we didn’t let it tempt us into quitting. You can see in this photo the lovely carpet we get to vacuum on cleaning day, and let me tell ya – it’s a mess. When the previous owners moved out of our house, they had all new carpets put in (the cheapest beige shag money could buy), and we’ve been living with the wonders of shag for 3 years since. We hope to do something about the flooring this spring with our tax return (?), but in the meantime, I’m vowing to keep our carpets clean and pet hair-free.
Here’s a tip we tried yesterday to cut down on the dust and pet hair in the air while we were cleaning: Turn on your AC fan while vacuuming and dusting. It wouldn’t hurt to change your air filter either. Either way, the point is to have your air conditioner’s fan suck in all the allergens and dust in the air as you’re stirring things up around your house. It’s a great way to keep that dust from floating around and falling back down onto your newly Pledge-d tabletops.
I’m the first to admit I’m no Martha Stewart when it comes to cleaning, but I hope you’ve enjoyed the few tips I had to share with you this week! In case you missed any of them, here they are again:

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you have a wonderful, warm weekend!
