Spring Bedroom Redo

After we tackled the living room this weekend, our bedroom got a little makeover of its own, thanks to (you guessed it) Ikea!  (Are you sick of hearing about Ikea yet?… 🙂 )

Here’s a quick reminder of our master bedroom, after the sprucing up we did last year.

And again a few months later, with my newly created placemat pillows.

We decided to keep the furniture placement the same as it has been, but with the addition of new linens, we totally changed the look!

I think I had the idea in the back of my mind that, with our master closet looking so spiffy and our master bath not far behind, it was time to show a little love to our bedroom as well.

I can’t wait to see these three rooms 100% complete!  The color palette of charcoal, yellow, white, and wood is one of our absolute favs.

The dark gray curtains replaced the white and blue ones I made last year.  While I loved our old curtains, I really don’t know what I was thinking – hanging un-lined white curtains in the bedroom of a couple of DINKs (dual-income-no-kids)?  We like to sleep in on the weekends, and our new gray curtains make our bedroom positively cave-like when they’re shut!

Here’s a little proof that real people live in this house and not everything is “designed” just for the sake of looking pretty.  I know not everybody would show you this side of our room, but we like to keep it real at Heardmont!

Yes, that’s an elliptical machine.  Yes, it’s the first thing we see when we wake up and the last thing we see when we go to bed.  No, you don’t want to know the last time I used it…

At least it’s color-coordinated, right? 😉

Anyway, back to the pretty side of the room. You probably could have guessed that everything new in this photo is courtesy of Ikea – the drapes, the bedding, and the rug! And a side note on that rug: I have lusted after that baby for probably 3 years, and I was so happy that when we made the trip to Dallas I actually had a reason to bring it home with me!

See the gray shams on those Euro pillows in the back?  Would you believe I made those from an extra set of curtains?  Sure did!  At $19.99 for a pair of panels, I was able to cover 2 pillows AND have plenty of material left for the “runner” at the foot of our bed.

You can catch a tutorial on the Euro shams tomorrow!

The lamps and nightstands have been in our room since last year.  I still love the simple glass lamps (from JC Penney) with the white shades (Target) on those 2-shelf tables (bookcases via Pier 1).

The view from my dresser isn’t too bad either!  What do you think of my little brass elephant?  He’s a lonely bookend I found at one of my favorite thrift stores a few months ago.  Even though she doesn’t necessarily match, I decided our blue ceramic swan could stay and keep him company (and up the quirk factor just a bit).

So there you have it – our fabric-centric master bedroom update.  My favorite part of this makeover had to be that it only took an afternoon to pull together (counting the time to IRON those darn curtains) and it didn’t involve lifting a brush or a roller at all!

In case you’re curious, here’s the budget breakdown.

Curtains: 3 sets @ $20 each
Duvet Cover: $40
Gray Sheets: $28
Area Rug: $159
Euro Pillows: 2 @ $6 each
Yellow Pillow: Free (thanks Mom!) 😀

Total: $299

Now, honest opinions please.  Would you have guessed that this is mostly an Ikea-sourced room?  Does it look too matchy-matchy, or did I do ok with one of my first attempts at mixing patterns?  I would love to hear your thoughts!  Thanks!
