There’s something about this harvest time of year that makes us want to spend time in the kitchen. The cooler weather sets in and we turn on the oven and start revisiting our favorite fall recipes.
This newfound desire to spend time in the kitchen has me dreaming about the top five changes I’d make to ours (if money was no object, of course)!
1. New Countertops
We really don’t have a lot of countertops left to replace since we got rid of our old island and added the new one (from Ikea). We could continue the butcher block look and replace the rest of our counters for very little cash…
… or go for high contrast and durability with something like this dark granite.
2. Pretty Backsplash
No dream kitchen would be complete without a sparkly new backsplash. We love the look of white and black kitchens, so something like this white herringbone pattern with dark grout could be the winner…
… or we could use the opportunity to add a bit more drama with colored tile.
3. New Flooring
Here’s another update we’ve discussed and have narrowed down to two options. Run wood flooring throughout the house and into the kitchen…
… or transition to dark slate for durability and water resistance.
4. New Oven and Hood
Our dream kitchen would have a huge stainless gas range and a dramatic hood like this one…
… but I’d take something much more simple like the microwave below, as long as it was stainless!
5. A little somethin’ somethin’
New counters, flooring, backsplash, and appliances – what could be left? Adding a bit of personality, of course! I love the idea of open shelving above a sink for storing cookbooks and adding color to a room.
And here’s another example of how much personality accessories can bring to a space – do you realize that under all the accessories, this is a completely white kitchen with dark countertops?
Now that I’ve shared our top 5 kitchen updates, it’s your turn! What changes would you make to your kitchen if money was no object? Would it be a complete overhaul or little tweaks here and there? Don’t be shy. 🙂
