Fall Mantel Update

Happy weekend everybody! We’re getting ready for fall around these parts, and I wanted to share a quick update to our fireplace mantel. You might remember the look we tried out this spring, bringing in colored glass bottles and some fresh buds for a light and airy look.

At first I tried to stick with this look, by adding darker glass to the mix, but without the height of the blooming branches, the balance was way off and the mantel looked crowded.

I pondered this for a few days and decided it was time for a big change.  I started by adding a mirror I stole from another corner of our living room and a wreath I found at a thrift store for $4. The texture on this baby is beautiful!

As you can see, it took several iterations before I found the right balance.  Here’s the finished result!

We finally settled on a combination of green, purple, rust, and browns.  I kept a few pieces of glass and brought in the woven candleholders and two frames from our honeymoon.  I made the art myself.

What do you think of my update? I love shopping my house for seasonal accessories.  It’s amazing what you can come up with if you just get creative!

Now it’s just time to change out my blue springy pillow covers for some darker tones and our living room will be set for fall.

I’m linking to Show and Share Day and Frugal Friday!
