Christmas Q & A

I came across this Christmas survey on It’s a Crafty Life this weekend and I thought I’d fill it out for fun.  Here are 22 things you might not have known about the holidays at Heardmont!

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
I don’t think I’ve ever tried egg nog, so hot chocolate it is!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?
He wraps them.  Once we have kids we’ll definitely follow the Santa tradition of using different wrapping paper for Santa only and disguising our handwriting on the tags.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
We like white lights on our tree, but again, once we have kids I can see us having colored lights for sure!

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No, but we do have a gold-dipped mistletoe ornament given to us by the jeweler who sold Stephen my engagement ring.  It’s on the tree every year right near the top and reminds us of our first Christmas together.

5. When do you put your decorations up?
I was ready to put them up when my mom arrived the day before Thanksgiving this year, but Stephen said we had to wait until after Thanksgiving dinner.  He was sweet enough to pull them all down from the attic right after dinner though!

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
It’s a tie between Campbell’s green bean casserole and Paula Deen’s corn casserole.  Oh, and the sweet potatoes are good too. 🙂

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
I loved it when Grandma and Grandpa would show up on Christmas morning with their boxes and garbage bags full of presents.  That meant the fun could begin!

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I’m not sure on this one, but I have a feeling my older cousins might have had something to do with it.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
When we were little, my mom would let us open the “out of town” gifts (sent to us by aunts and uncles) the night before Christmas.  Now Stephen and I open our gifts to each other sometime before actual Christmas with our families.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
I like a combination of ornaments in a certain color scheme and sentimental ornaments all on the same tree.  Maybe one day we’ll have another tree just for personal ornaments.

11. Snow! love it or dread it?
LOVE it!  In Arkansas we don’t get a ton of snow, so we love to see it on the ground.  Our pup Molly loves it too!

12. Can you ice skate?
Yup – there’s an ice rink about 15 minutes from where we went to college and I learned to skate there my freshman year.  Skiing is another matter entirely though!

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
I remember being totally shocked one year when two bikes appeared under the tree one year for my brother and me.  I just couldn’t figure out how Santa could get presents as big as bikes in his sleigh!

14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Counting my blessings and celebrating the birth of Jesus!

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
My mom makes a pretty mean pumpkin pie.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
In recent years it’s been heading down to the Fayetteville square to see the Lights of the Ozarks.  It’s a winter wonderland down there every year.

17. What tops your tree?
A capiz shell cross with the nativity scene in the center.

18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving?
My favorite is probably giving because I like making gifts or finding things our friends and family will love.

19. Candy canes: yuck or yum?
I like them, but my favorites are the fruity flavored ones!

20. Favorite christmas movie?
White Christmas, hands down.  As a little girl, the singing and the dancing captivated me, and as an adult, it’s the movie that was on when Stephen proposed!

21. Saddest christmas song?
Blue Christmas

22. What is your favorite christmas song?
Let It Snow – it just makes you feel cozy!

I’m curious to see how you guys would answer these questions.  Do we share any favorite Christmas traditions?  If you play along, leave a link so I can come visit and see your answers!
