I’m back to reveal our Christmas 2010 Gift Wrapping Theme: Brown Paper Packages! (The camera battery charger has been found! Whoo hoo!)
Truth be told, the idea for our gift wrapping this year came from trying to use what we already had and not spending a lot on new wrapping paper and tags. After gathering up our supplies and getting a little creative, I’m proud to announce that everything we used (except for two gift bags) was leftover from other projects.
Ready for a peek at some of the gifts in our stash? Here they are!
The gift tags were all handmade from some thick scrapbook paper we already had. Here’s a quick tutorial in case you want to make some for yourself.
ABC Gift Tag Tutorial
Supplies:
1. two contrasting colors of scrapbook paper or cardstock
2. scissors (or fancy-schmancy letter cutting machine, if you’re lucky enough to have one!)
3. tape
4. pen
Step 1: Using one color of paper, cut out the first letter of the gift-receiver’s name. I cut the letters out freehand, but you could also use a stencil to trace the letter or have a cutting machine (Cricut, Silhouette, etc) do it for you.
Step 2: From the contrasting paper, cut a rectangle large enough to fit behind your cut-out letter. I took it a step further and used a corner cutter to get those rounded corners.
Step 3: Using little pieces of tape, adhere the letter to the center of your rectangle.
Step 4: Write the gift-receiver’s name below the letter. I decided to re-write the first letter and then write the whole name. In retrospect I might have used a different format for the names.
Here are a few other suggestions:
Meredith
meredith
m: meredith
M: Meredith
M meredith
(You get the idea 🙂 )
After you write the name, you are done! I made most of the tags in one sitting and then got busy wrapping. One suggestion and a good way to quickly spot kids’ gifts in the pile is to use lowercase letters for their tags and uppercase for the adults’. Here are a few of our tags ready to go.
For the wrapping paper, I used brown kraft paper and tied up the boxes with twine. A little piece of tape on the back of the tags secured them in place.
One last look at some of the presents under our tree. I’m happy with how they turned out!
So there you have it: our brown paper packages, all ready for Christmas. It think it will be so fun handing out these presents this year. I wonder if my niece and nephew are old enough to figure out whose names are on the gifts? Guess we’ll see!
I hope you’re inspired to use what you have with your wrapping this year. Thanks for visiting!
